CKAN System Administraor
The CKAN Sysadmin¶
A CKAN sysadmin user can access and edit any organizations, view and change user details, and permanently delete datasets. You should carefully consider who has access to a sysadmin account on your CKAN system.
Please note, that certain administration tasks are not available through the web UI but need access to the server where CKAN is installed.
One CKAN sysadmin account is already created while setting up the TUMI datahub.
If there are additional CKAN sysadmin accounts or command line access are required, please contact our support.
CKAN Sysadmin task "modify user interface"¶
As a CKAN sysadmin, you possess the capability to customize specific aspects of the user interface to align with your platform's requirements and enhance user experience. To initiate modifications:
- Click on the administrative icon (gavel) located in the top right corner to access the "Configure" tab within the admin menu.
-
Tailor the following settings:
-
Site Title: Adjust the title representing your platform.
- Site Logo: Upload or modify the logo that symbolizes your platform.
- Intro Text: Craft introductory text displayed on the homepage. Utilize plain text or use headline formatting for a compelling introduction.
These interface modifications serve to personalize your platform, making it more engaging and aligned with your organizational or thematic focus. Utilize this capability to create an interface that resonates with your users and effectively communicates your platform's purpose.
CKAN Sysadmin task "create organization"¶
Only the CKAN sysadmin can create new organization. Each organization needs at least one organization admin. As an CKAN sysadmin you can see all datasets including those that are private to an organization. They will show up when doing a dataset search.
CKAN Sysadmin task "permanently delete datasets"¶
A dataset which has been deleted is not permanently removed from CKAN; it is simply marked as ‘deleted’ and will no longer show up in search, etc. The dataset’s URL cannot be re-used for a new dataset.
To permanently delete (“purge”) a dataset:
Navigate to the dataset’s “Edit” page, and delete it.
Visit https://<my-city>.tumidata.org/ckan-admin/trash
This page shows all deleted datasets and allows you to delete them permanently.
Please note: At present, it is not possible to purge organizations or groups using the web UI. This can only be done with access to the server, by directly deleting them from CKAN’s database.
